31st. Can anyone help? Just got the following email, but I don't know anyone....
Can I ask you for advice? My hubby and I have clashing business / family requirement trips in October and we need a dog sitter for 2 or 3 nights. He is a cute chubby friendly and naughty westie, house trained and all that and loves the company of men (can’t imagine where that habit came from). We can't find anyone advertising a dog sitting service.
Please drop me a line if you know of anyone and I'll forward it on to them.
30th. If you're thinking of taking to the roads in Spain this weekend, don't! This is one of the busiest weekends of the year as an expected 4.4 million road trips will be made by Spaniards returning home from holiday. At last there'll be some parking spots in town!
29th. What is it they say? Imitation is the highest form of flattery? Good, 'cos I'm noticing it happening a hell of a lot lately, actually, not just lately, but for the last 2 years its been increasingly noticable. I'm really quite pleased about it though, because the same people who are imitating GaySitges.com (albeit in a different format), are the very ones that once told me I was doing everything wrong with this site. Guess I haven't got it so wrong then, 'cos GaySitges.com is still Nº 1 in God's eyes (Google). There's a lot to be said for a KISS.
28th. That's another Fiesta Mayor over with. The next big event in Sitges is Santa Tecla on the 22nd & 23rd of September, which is a mini version of Fiesta Mayor. All the same stuff but with children and a 15 minute rather than 30 minute firework display. See the Events page.
27th. We have the details for this year's International Film Festival of Catalonia, held in Sitges. See the Events page.
26th. You've heard it, I've heard it, everybody's heard it...."Sitges is expensive" - but will someone please tell me where Sitges is expensive compared to? I've recently been doing a lot of traveling around spain and I'm totally confused as to where everyone is getting that idea. Don't tell me Benidorm is cheaper, not at 4€ a beer it's not! Don't tell me Madrid is cheaper, not at 6€ a beer it's not. Don't tell me Ibiza is cheaper either, at 6€ a beer there too. That's all compared to just 3€ a beer in Sitges, and that's not counting Sitges' amazing generosity where half the time you get 2 4 1 anyway, which works out at 1.50€ a beer!!!
All I can conclude is that the travel editor of Gay Times in the UK, which is my only guess as to where this scare mongering started, must not have got laid when he came to Sitges and has written a bitter price review in revenge.
Sitges is NOT expensive, at least not compared to everywhere else in Spain I've been to recently, nor that I've been to in the last 10 years I've lived here, which includes almost every main town in Spain.
Whoever is doing this 'high price' mongering, which has almost even got us Sitgens believing it ourselves, needs to take a trip to Barcelona, Madrid, Gran Canaria, Torremolinos, Ibiza, Mykonos, Paris, London, New York, Key West, Sydney, San Francisco, Miami, Beijing etc, etc, etc, and then they'd know what expensive is!
25th. Tonight the theme for the weekly GBP at Atlántida disco is 'Handbag', with music from the likes of Madonna, Kylie, Mylene etc.
24th. On holiday.
23rd. On holiday.
22nd. On holiday.
21st. I'm sure you've all heard by now about the terrible air disaster at Barajas airport in Spain yesterday, of the Spanair flight bound for Gran Canaria, in which over 140 people were killed. Being August and being a flight from Madrid, headed for Gran Canaria, you can guarantee a good number were Spanish gay travelers.
I'm headed for Madrid for a few days, so have a great Fiesta Mayor lads. The blog will continue when I get back.
20th. Are you all ready for a very busy week? Fiesta Mayor starts tomorrow and the town and all the bars will be packed solid.
19th. Tonight its Disco Fever, with 70's, 80's & 90's hits at the GBP at Atlántida disco.
18th. I just joined Gayster, which is a brand new off-shoot of Facebook and to my surprise, got an email from a boyfriend I had 27 years ago in Bournemouth, England. Remember him so well, because he came home from work unexpectedly one day and found me in a compromising position with a friend of ours! <blush> Try it, it looks like its gonna be fun, but be ready for old ghosts to pop out of the closet!
17th. Happy birthday to me! In case you hadn't guessed by today's very late update, yours faithfully got laid last night :-) Just got home, (7pm) and that's all I can think of to say today. I'm off to a birthday party tonight, so god knows what time this'll get updated tomorrow. Seems everyone's having a birthday this weekend!!! ¡Viva España!
16th. Happy 50th birthday Madonna! Our Diva still looks "like a virgin".
15th. Tonight, (we hope) is Bronxxx at Pacha. Best check in at Parrots Pub and ask them, as they're the organisers.
14th. Just one week to Fiesta Mayor. Its Sitges biggest festival of the year, with dragons and demons roaming the streets spitting fire at you, and a colossal firework display on the 23rd. See the Events page.
13th. Five tasty suggestions for eating out in Sitges....
1. For a first class English breakfast on a lovely outdoor terrace, try Margarita Beachfront.
2. For a delicious English/International style brunch or evening meal, you have Monroes.
3. For a superb pizza and by far the best coffee in town, Café Sitges is a must.
4. For their excellent Aussie/Oriental blend of cuisine, the Beach House.
5. For top class international dining, Parrots has to be on your list.
12th. Tonight they vote for Mr. Gay Sitges at Atlántida disco.
11th. Do you remember Phillips Pub, which I believe ran for over 15 years, until last year? Its now called Blondies and is still popular with gay folk wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. A lovely little terrace bar just off Playa San Sebastián. See the Bars page.
10th. A little note about parking in Sitges, since now is the busiest time of the year - If you plan to come to Sitges by car, don't! You will find it almost impossible to find a parking spot, but if you do and it has a blue line, it means you have to find the ticket machine, buy your ticket and put it on the inside of your windscreen. If you're staying a few days or more, public car parks work out at 25€ to 30€ a day, but you can find some that do a weekly rate for around 160€ or a two week rate for around 250€. Apart from anything else, if you park on the street, the Spanish have a lovely habit of shunting the cars in front and behind to get in and out of a spot, and often with surprising force! The moral of the story is, come to Sitges by train, plane, submarine, anything but a car! - Don't think its just Sitges though, I only say Sitges because this blog is about Sitges, the exact same applies to every seaside town in Spain.
9th. Bronxxx was postponed/cancalled last night. Real shame they didn't let us know, though hopefully they would have had someone in Plaza España to let you know it was called off.
08/08/08. Tonight is Bronxxx at Pacha disco. Free bus from Plaza España, which if you turn right out of Parrots Pub, walk past Montroig café and then turn left, its the open space in front of you.
7th. Did you notice the number above has changed again? We are now regularly hitting 800 visitors a day (over 24,000 a month) to GaySitges.com. We know that apart from all of our European visitors, we're getting a lot State side as well. Howdy guys! And by the way, the lads in the video at the bottom of this page are in town again right now. Tell 'em hi from GaySitges.com if you see them.
6th. The new Bronxxx night at Pacha disco has changed to Friday nights instead of Thursdays....and did the heat wave ever intensify yesterday, 35ºC (95ºF) here in Sitges, which was about the coolest spot in Spain. Most of the country exceeded 40ºC (104ºF).
5th. Half way through the Gay Beach Party (GBP) season, tonight at Atlántida disco is the White Party.
The heat wave I mentioned about 3 weeks ago, that was supposed to last 4 or 5 days is still with us and is intensifying, with most of Spain now in yellow alert and some parts in orange alert. If you're going to the White Party, you won't need to wear more than a white Dicky bow to stay hot.
4th. We're back! - The house move is done. 4 moves in 18 months - Am staying put this time!
Mini Golf, or as its called in Catalonian, Xic Golf is coming back to town after a 5 year absence. In the same place as it used to be, right behind Parrots Hotel. To be exact, its behind the new offices they're building next to Parrots Hotel. It'll be a fun little diversion trying to get your balls through all those holes. More details when it gets nearer to its opening date, which hasn't been released yet.
3rd. On holiday.
2nd. On holiday.
1st. On holiday.
